Commentary: Bad things happened to Job. Consequentially, according to verse 3:23, Job blamed God for his troubles. His first three counselors ceased to answer Job, because he was righteous in his own eyes. (Job 32:1) His 4th counselor, Elihu, said this, For Job hath said, I am righteous, And God hath taken away my right: though I am without transgression. (J0b 34: 5-6) Job’s first critical flaw was that he was self-righteous.
Elihu said to Job that he would deliver him from going down to the pit. He prays unto God, and he is favorable unto him, So that he sees his face with joy. And he restores unto man his righteousness. (Job 23:26) Job’s second critical flaw was that he initially failed to recognize and believe that God’s righteousness comes from another, Elihu.
Note: It may be a coincidence that the 42 chapters of Job are the same as 42 generations of Jesus.
